On Saturday 21 June, Amsterdam Fashion Week will host the very first fashion show ever to take place on a highway, transforming the A10 Ring into a monumental catwalk in celebration of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. Representing the immense talent Amsterdam holds, this event honours the undeniable role of fashion, creativity, and diversity in the capital – past, present, and future. As part of the citywide festivities, fifteen kilometers of the A10 will be entirely car-free for the day and at 19:00, the S106 exit will become the entrance to a 75-meter runway, open to the public and free for anyone to attend.
Past, Present & Future on the runway
To pay tribute to the designers who have helped shape Dutch fashion and to spotlight the talent shaping its future, AFW has invited three leading names to headline the show: Guillaume Philibert (Filling Pieces), Borre Akkersdijk (BYBORRE), and Renée van Wijngaarden (1/OFF). Each designer has selected talents to collaborate with and coach towards a 60-look collective show where established names and fresh voices come together.
“As an Amsterdam-based entrepreneur and creative director, the city is a constant source of inspiration,” says Guillaume Philibert, who mentors River Moojen and Jannah Erdtracht. “Its diversity and creative freedom have shaped my journey, and I’m proud to support the next generation as they take their first steps.”
Borre Akkersdijk, founder of BYBORRE, has selected Joone Joonam, an independent designer whose practice merges craft, historical costume and cultural commentary. “Amsterdam is an incubator for design, fashion, and art,” Borre says. “I’m proud to open the doors of the industry to the talents of tomorrow.”
Renée van Wijngaarden, founder of 1/OFF, coaches designers Vince Reece Hale and Emma van Engelen. “Amsterdam is where I grew up, where contrast and creativity shaped my vision. This project represents the power of the city: raw, open and always in motion.”
With Levi’s® providing repurposed denim inventory as the foundation for each collection, the material serves as a unifying thread across the show. Whilst denim sets the tone, each designer brings their own perspective—resulting in a diverse range of looks that explore identity, self-expression, and the many faces of the city. The project is made possible in collaboration with partners including Meester Koetsier Foundation, MAC, and New Balance.
Danie Bles, Owner of Amsterdam Fashion Week: “My goal with Amsterdam Fashion Week is to create opportunities for talent, tell compelling stories and push creative boundaries. ‘AFW On the Ring’ is a true collision of past, present and future—a runway for both heritage and what lies ahead. This show is a celebration of 750 years of Amsterdam, but also a tribute to everything the city continues to stand for: creativity, freedom and reinvention.”
From the Runway to the Public Library
In collaboration with OBA (Amsterdam Public Library), the sixty looks created by the talents will live on beyond the show. From July until December 2025, six pieces per designer will be available to borrow through the library’s Fashion Rental Program, offering the public direct access to high fashion and continuing the project’s sustainable mission.
