History
Amsterdam Fashion Week (AFW) was established in 2004 with the aim of positioning Amsterdam as a vibrant and internationally oriented fashion destination. The event has since become a central platform for showcasing both emerging and established Dutch designers, emphasising creativity, sustainability, and innovation.
In 2017, Dutch stylist and fashion entrepreneur Danie Bles acquired AFW from the Telegraaf Media Groep. Under her leadership, AFW has undergone significant transformations, including a shift to biannual events in February and September, aligning with international fashion calendars. Bles introduced a more dynamic and inclusive approach, incorporating live streams, city-wide collaborations, and a focus on sustainability and emerging talent.
In recent years, AFW has evolved into an annual event, with a central feature known as The HUB. The HUB is an open-to-public space where new designers present their work, and where fashion intersects with culture through talks, drinks, and music. It’s the heart of AFW, a dynamic, inclusive environment designed for connection. Today, AFW continues to evolve, serving as a bridge between creativity and commerce, and reinforcing Amsterdam’s role as a hub for fashion innovation.
