Lichting, also known as the debutante ball for Dutch fashion, welcomes all Fashion Design graduates from the seven Dutch fashion academies via an open call for the second year in a row. In addition to the open call, the seven academies each submit one designer who is guaranteed a place in the next round.

Lichting represents excellence and zeitgeist. Since 2020, Lichting has been opening the doors to a multidisciplinary interpretation of fashion, showing an innovative and contemporary interpretation of it. The participants of Lichting excel at what they do; whether they specialise in couture, digital design, performance, commercial product, innovative design or traditional design practices, provided that they are the best of their generation and assure a high standard of impressive work.

The Lichting trajectory
Lichting has been working with three selection rounds since 2022; the Lichting team selects 25 candidates from the submissions from the academies and open call. These 25 candidates present their concept, process and work to a Dutch jury that chooses 10 participants. These ten candidates participate in the Lichting trajectory & presentation at Amsterdam Fashion Week.
As always, the participants will be guided and prepared to pitch to an international jury during Amsterdam Fashion Week and participate in the Lichting presentation for the panel and curated audience. The panel chooses one Lichting winner who goes home with €10,000 prize money and legal guidance from Van Kaam IP, Media & Privacy worth €5,000.

Open call
The open call is open to anyone who graduates between the 1^st of January and the 1^st  of August 2023 in the field of Fashion Design at one of the seven academies; AMFI – Amsterdam Fashion Institute, ArtEZ Academy of Visual Arts Arnhem, Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Utrecht School of the Arts, Maastricht Institute of Arts, Royal Academy of the Visual Arts The Hague, Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam.

Participation requirements
Participants of Lichting each stand out in what they do; the condition is that you create impressive work and excel in what you create.

All Lichting participants;

• graduated in Fashion Design at an HBO fashion academy
• graduated between the 1^st of January 2023 and the 1^st of August 2023
• deliver an outstanding performance in Fashion Design
• can make their concept, process and end result clear within their application
• Are available on all dates Lichting takes place
  • Presentation to Dutch jury – July 21^st 2023
  • Portfolio & pitch workshop – August 4^th  2023
  • Panel pitch for international panel – August 31^st 2023
  • Lichting event – September 1^st 2023
