Steve Madden and Duran Lantink join forces during AFW Edition 2022

Steve Madden will be part of the Amsterdam Fashion Week schedule for the first time. Curated by Dutch designer Duran Lantink, the renowned footwear label presents its Fall/Winter 2022 collection with an interactive presentation and the unique setting of club Moulin Rouge as its center stage. We sat down with the brand to discuss their long legacy, its introduction to Duran, and further details about their AFW presence in September!


How did the collaboration between Steve Madden and Duran Lantink come to being?

Where do you and Duran find common ground? What are the similarities in your (design) vision?
There’s definitely common ground. Duran’s vision is creative, daring and known for thinking out of the box. You could even describe his style as provocative, and equality is paramount in his designs. This is exactly what Steve Madden stands for.

Steve Madden has been around since the 90s and is now a shoe brand loved by numerous generations alike. Can you tell us a little more about Steve Madden’s growth and its position within the fashion industry over the past few years? Where is the brand now and where is it going?
What started as a modest $1,100 investment in 1990 has grown into one of the most iconic footwear brands. From a factory in Queens, NY, which provides Steve Madden and his design team with the unique ability to test products and respond quickly to trends, he has revolutionised the footwear industry. Steve’s innate talent for trends and unparalleled willpower have resulted in millions of clients around the world and propelled his designs to the forefront of fashion. He has expanded the Steve Madden brand into a lifestyle brand for shoes, clothing, handbags and accessories, sold in more than 80 countries around the world. It’s about authenticity. It’s about embracing individuality. Our goal is to build Steve Madden into a “love” brand and strive for growth to become the #1 fast fashion lifestyle brand in Europe.

Are there any designers out there you would love to collaborate with?
That for sure! From young talents to renowned powerhouses like Tom Ford. When it comes to collaborations, the sky is the limit.

As Duran became synonymous with high-quality yet daring presentations, what can our visitors expect during Amsterdam Fashion Week?
You will surely be surprised! Duran is a conceptual genius and makes the craziest ideas come to life. We are very happy to have him on board as the creative brain behind our concept. Without giving too much away, I would say let yourself be enchanted by his vision because it’s definitely going to be worth it!
